EL PASO, Texas (AP) - A Texas jury has convicted a teenager in the beating death of an El Paso police officer. The jury deliberated for about five hours Monday before finding Juan Antonio Gonzalez guilty of murder in the 2012 death of Officer Jonathan Molina. Gonzalez's attorney says the teenager was acting in self-defense.
HOUSTON (AP) - Investigators are trying to identify a body found wrapped in a blanket and dumped in some woods near Houston. The Harris County Sheriff's Office says a man walking along a bayou yesterday afternoon noticed an odor and found the body. An autopsy has been ordered.
DALLAS (AP) - The owner of a Dallas convenience store and the business manager must go to federal prison and repay nearly $2 million in a food stamp scam. Kamardeen Ogunleye was sentenced to five years in prison. Robert Gordon received a 27-month term. Investigators say the men paid cash for food stamps at a rate of about a dollar for every $2 worth of benefits. The men then redeemed the full amount of the benefits.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - An Arlington skate park is expected to be closed for at least two weeks while city workers clean up graffiti. The 21,000-square-foot park was opened in April. Arlington voters approved $500,000 for the park in a 2008 bond election and the rest was funded by the city's natural gas lease revenue.
