AUSTIN - Governor Rick Perry activated search and rescue teams Friday in response to severe weather that continues to move across the state.
Perry activated a rescue and evacuation team consisting of 96 soldiers and 38 high profile vehicles. The soldiers will be deployed in Waco, Austin and San Antonio. Texas Army National Guard helicopters are also being staged in Austin and San Antonio.
Perry also activated three helicopter rescue squads from Texas Task Force 1, based in College Station. Task Force 1 will also support a 28-member swift water rescue team in San Antonio with equipment and personel ready for rapid deployment.
Flooding rains have already killed at least five people in the Killeen area. People are also reported missing in the Texas Hill Country.
