BRAZOS VALLEY- The Brazos Valley is known for its hometown local food venues, but Chef Tai's food truck is taking things to a national level by showing the nation how college station does food. The gourmet food on wheels is in a national competition to be featured on the next season of the Food Network show "The Great Food Truck Race."
"A number one spot would actually get us a chance to appear on Season 3 of Food Network's The Great Food Truck Race, and how awesome would it be to represent this community and these people and businesses on a national spotlight," said Tai Lee, Owner of Chef Tai's Mobile Gourmet Food Truck.
A graduate of Texas A&M, Tai went from 191st place to 2nd in the competition since voting opened up last week, and he says he has the community and his fellow Aggies to thank for that.
"Well i think this community being such a tight knit community, and I think just the fact that we are a local restaurant that helps a lot," said Tai.
His customers and fans are showing their loyalty with daily voting to bring Chef Tai to the number one spot in the competition.
"I dont know who is number one right now but I know that the Aggie network can come out in full force and support anybody and boost anybody up to the top so I'm counting on that to happen for him. I think that would be awesome for this community," said Maria Wiggins, a customer at Chef Tai's restaurant on wheels.
With over 15 different meals to choose from Chef Tai's gourmet food truck is growing in popularity not only in College Station but across the country.
"We have quality food even if it is a small town we have absolutely gourmet food that is on par with any other big city like New York, LA, Austin, we can take on any kind of food in the country," said Wiggins
