WASHINGTON COUNTY - TXDOT says clean up is still underway following the fatal accident that occurred on State Highway 36 this morning. A driver who apparently fell asleep at the wheel is now dead after hitting another vehicle head on Wednesday morning.

According to Trooper Jimmy Morgan, at around 4:40 a.m. a truck tractor trailer owned by Exxon Mobil was headed northbound on SH 36 when it was hit head on by a Ford pick-up driven by 31-year-old Lazaro Estarza Jr.

Estarza had supposedly fallen asleep at the wheel and veered into oncoming traffic. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

TXDOT and HAZMAT crews were dispatched to the scene to clean up the oil spilled in the wreck. The highway is expected to open back up at around 2 o'clock in the morning.
