Major accident leaves driver with incapacitating injuries


COLLEGE STATION - A woman is recovering after being involved in a serious auto-accident on Tuesday.

The accident happened at around 5:40 p.m. in the 1400 block of Earl Rudder Freeway South.

Officers responded to the scene to find that a 2007 GMC Sierra had struck the rear end of a box trailer being towed by a 2003 Freightliner.

Witnesses stated that traffic had slowed quite a bit following the crash, but there was no actual obstruction to traffic.

The driver of the Freightliner had reportedly slowed his vehicle, but the driver of the GMC was unable to stop before striking the back of the trailer.

After the collision, the engine compartment of the GMC caught fire. College Station fire units responded to extinguish the flames.

The driver of the GMC, identified as 20-year-old Kathryn Kubacak of Cypress, was taken to the hospital for incapacitating injuries.

The driver of the Freightliner, identified as 53-year-old Freddy Cortes of Houston, was uninjured in the accident.
