Blues Festival kicks off this weekend

Posted:

BRYAN--For the first time, the Bryan Texas Blues Festival and Celebration kicked off today in downtown Bryan.

Renowned blues artists from around the world gathered in Bryan to celebrate blues and the Bryan community. Playing at the Palace Theater saxophone players, keyboardists, drummers, and even the mayor showed up Friday to start things off.

Nat Dove is the festival director who also played his keyboard on Friday night. He said almost every musician jumped at the chance to play in their home town.

"Well this is a 50 year old dream fulfillment," Dove said.

"I left about 50 years ago, and I've always wanted to come back here and communicate to the young people that they stand on the shoulders of giants."

Dove says he used to shine shoes across the street from the theater and he played in the playground behind it. After living in France, Tokyo, and Hollywood he says it feels good to come back home.
