BRYAN - Lloyd Joyce has announced that he will file as a candidate for Place 6 on the Bryan City Council. A replacement for Councilman Mike Southerland's seat, due to term limitation, will be selected in the Municipal Election to be held with the General Election on November 6. Place 6 is the Council at Large post that covers the entire city.
Joyce's announcement stated "I love Bryan. This is my home. I offer my services because I'm convinced that I can be of help in keeping our city a great place to live, work and do business.
I offer experience in business having operated and owned my own business for over 41 years. You can expect me to support sound and conservative business principles in operating city government. I offer experience in city government having served on the city Council with three years experience as mayor and four years as mayor pro tem. I have been a close observer of city business for many years. I believe in open, transparent transactions of the people's business. I can be counted on to make studied and measured responses on the issues. The present economic condition makes it necessary for city officials to possess the experience and wisdom to determine the difference between the wants and the needs to operate an efficient government. We must stay focused on economical delivery of the basic core services that are necessary for Bryan's continued success.
Research shows that the primary ingredients for economic development include low taxes, reasonable utilities, good schools, neat and clean neighborhoods, and quality of life amenities. I will work to preserve improvement made in these areas and strive for additional progress. Efforts to deal with infrastructure and substandard housing over the entire city must be addressed for the long time success of Bryan. I live on the east side and have a business on the west side making me keenly aware of challenges facing our city.
I will accept and solicit citizen input. My goal is to represent all of the citizens of the city of Bryan in an equitable manner. My goal will be to judiciously look after the citizens' purse. If elected, I will be accessible 24 hours per day and I will be available at City Hall on a designated schedule to meet with citizens.
I look forward to visiting with the citizens of Bryan to hear their needs and to share my vision for the future."
