Missing pilot found, pronounced dead


Milam County Sheriff David Greene has confirmed that the body of the pilot of a missing paraglider has been found in rural Milam County. 

The wreckage of the un-powered ultralight aircraft was spotted by a DPS helicopter assisting in the search at around 3:15 Monday afternoon. 

The pilot, 50-year-old Don Bayliss of Atlanta, Georgia. was pronounced dead at the scene off Milam County Road 202 West of Cameron between Cameron and Pettibone.

Bayliss was a participant in a race that was supposed to cover a course from Hearne to Rockdale to Cameron and back to Hearne.

DPS Spokesman Harpin Myers says winds picked up at one time during the race. He was last heard from at around 4:00 p.m. after flying at around 4,000 feet.
