BRAZOS COUNTY- Officials have released more details on an accidental shooting in Brazos County.
Police say a 50 year old woman was shooting at a skunk on her front porch and hit her 51 year old husband instead.
Just past 9 p.m. on Sunday, the Brazos County Sheriff's Office received a call from a home on the 1500 block of Wayfarer Lane in Nantucket for a shooting.
The woman's son told ABC40 this isn't the first time she has tried to shoot and kill a skunk outside their home.
The victim's son says his mother was out on the porch trying to shoot a skunk when the bullet ricochet off the deck and went through the back door hitting his father in the stomach.
The husband was air lifted to Herman Hospital in Houston.
"The husband was interviewed in the hospital by a Houston Police Officer and his story was consistent with hers, so all the statements are consistent and the physical evidence is there." Brazos County Sheriff Chris Kirk said, "It all matches so it truly was an accidental shooting."
7 children ranging from 5 years old to high school, were inside the home during the shooting.
Sheriff Kirk says the mother was using a 45 caliber handgun and has a concealed carry license.
The husband has been released from the hospital and the family says they are thankful for his fast recovery.
No charges have been filed against the wife at this time.
